Maynard Ferguson died yesterday at the age of 78.  As the last great jazz legend, it seems as if the old school jazz dies with him.  I can remember when I was about 15 years old, I shared a stage with the man at Bands of America in Indiana.  I was in the honors jazz band there playing lead alto and remember clearly spending a whole day with him in our jazz band before we took the stage that night.  As a very coarse teacher, he had a lot to offer and I am proud to say I shared the stage with one of the last great trumpeters.  RIP Brother Maynard, and long live Sinfonia.

Yesterday my alternator failed in my car, so I’ve fixed that.  It was a pain because I didn’t have the best tools in the world to replace it, but I was able to.

On Saturday I finally finished my Masonic work and was raised a Master Mason.  It was a great experience and I’m very honored to be following in my grandfather’s footsteps.  I’ll be finding a lodge to call my home after we move to Atlanta, then continuing into the Shriners for my 32nd degree (hey, I get a cool hat).  Turns out that I had more fraternity in me after college, and I’m thoroughly enjoying every esoteric moment of it.

It’s really quite funny to see your own job up on careerbuilder.

Today we interview Peter Pan.  No shit, that’s his real name.

Amid the babyness going on here I thought I’d post and give you all an update.

Last week I turned in my 4 weeks notice at work and let them know I was going to be moving to Atlanta on the 6th of September.  My boss took it pretty well and I think they’re actually going to let me work these last few weeks.  I was scared they wouldn’t because of the amount of data and knowledge I’m privy to here (which is well, everything), thus making Caitlin and the baby subject to the woes of no-insurance land, but I expressed to my boss the reason I was giving them such a large notice window was because I wanted to make sure they found and were able to train someone to do my job seamlessly as possible.  That, and I needed my benefits.  He was completely understanding and alright with it, understood why I was moving ($$$) and wished me well, but I’m sure they’re not happy about having to train someone new all over again.  I’m continually writing guides here on my job description for the next guy to look at which makes my job explainable and do-able to a monkey.  So far I have about 70 pages worth of material.

I’ve been in the job hunt in Atlanta for the past two weeks or so, sending out resume after resume.  I’ve gotten some response and offers to a few jobs, all of which are about double my current salary.  That’s pretty comforting to know at least someone out there wants me.  I’ll still be on the lookout for that perfect niche of a job up until we move, so no worries here.

In other news, my Braves are doing incredibly shit-ty this year.  They’re in next to last place, just above the newly formed Washington Nationals, in the National League East.  With a 54-62 record and 17 games back so far, this is the first year in 14 years they haven’t taken their divisional title.  I blame it on the pitching and Bobby Cox’s poor judgement of relief pitchers early in the season which had a snowball effect up until the trade deadline where nothing was repairable.  The Detroit Tigers however have the BEST record in baseball right now with a 76-41 (.650 win %) record.  Go Tigers?  Who the hell watches Detroit play?  Maybe the Pistons?  Not me.

Dominic has been amazing so far.  He doesn’t really sleep very well yet but other than that he is a great baby. He eats well, he can roll over already, he has a really strong back and neck, and when he is awake he is generally happy not fussy.  He’s really cute, he likes to swim and take baths and look at everything.  He’s perfect!
I made an appointment with the doctor today because ever since delivery I’ve been having a lot of pain in my tailbone area especially when I sit or stand or… move.  Turns out I broke my tailbone. I didn’t know you could do it, but I did.  It gets better, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it, I just have to live with it.

At least I have Dominic here to distract me.
