After moving to Lilburn here outside of Atlanta I was in search for a regular Masonic Lodge that I could attend since moving from New York. After visiting quite a few around the area I finally settled on the one closest to me here in Lilburn, Sweetwater Lodge #421.
Today was the annual chicken barbeque which is a pretty big deal here for this lodge. Once a year in the spring they grill about 500+ chickens at the lodge over this HUGE outdoor handmade smoker. Being a new member of the lodge it was my priviledge to help cook the chickens, and it was pretty fun. I spent most of the day looking like I was cooking while chatting with alot of the bretheren.
Amougst my many conversations today I happened to chat with one of the older guys who had been married for over 40 years. After he told me he had been married that long, I asked him simply, “So what’s the secret?” His response…
“You need to fight. People don’t fight anymore. They just get up and leave and are afraid of fighting. It takes a good fight sometimes to let her know you can still love her no matter what you say or do.”
He then lit up a cigarette and called his wife over from across the yard. She came up, he gave her a kiss and said, “This young man right here just reminded me how much I love you.” She walked away with a smile on her face.
